I turned this white oak mallet, handle and head on a whim, because I love attractive mallets.  The handle is wrapped in leather with a thong screwed with a stainless screw into the handle.  The head is laminated quarter/riftsawn white oak and is attached to the handle via a through-tenon/wedge joint.  This is a hefty tool meant for large-scale carvers, timber-framers or greenwood furniture-makers and should last a long time (even if you leave it out in the rain once in a while.)
